People need to get a co-op together, loads of mums and stuff want to do something but face the same stumbling block with the licence, no reason one retail licence couldn't be used by a number of vendors doing their own thing under their own cost centres that i can think of, owner of licence would need to get a cut I presume of some of the profits but only something small, I can't think there would be too much paperwork in that..........in fact I'm gonna ask a friend of mine who has a number of licences he's not doing anything with. ( light bulb on!)

Hi, thanks for kind replys. I have just seen Little Impressions advertise for an event in Abu Dhabi, so I guess they are here already. Looks a very nice idea though. So, forgive me but I'm not sure how it works, if you don't haves licence per se but the organiser has got one, it's ok to trade under them? I'm sure I'm not going to be in the big league ever but it would be nice to sell some nice pieces. If you could operate under someone else's umbrella that would be fab :). I just would like to be flexible working somehow. Thanks again for all kind advice.

Hi Just to let you know hardly any of the craft stalls have licences. The people that organise it have one but stall holders mostly mums who make stuff don't have them. Some of these stalls aren't exactly businesses they are just people that have a hobby and end up selling bits and bobs. You would never make enough money to repay the licence and have a craft stall to make a profit. yes exactly for example the one at the swiss market at beach hotel in auh they have a licence, the indvidual stallholders wont.

you have to have a trade licence for the emirate you work in... always been the rules..... now there are free zones so things are a little different in those.

Hello, this may have been covered before but I can't see a thread so apologys if it's already been done. Since leaving the UAE and coming back, I have noticed quite a few little businesses, small jewellery and handicraft type things. I love this kind of thing and it's so great to see. A friend of mine makes wonderful handmade cards and flower decorations and I was thinking of bringing them out here. Maybe adding a few bits of my own too that I source but it used to be difficult to start a business unless you had a sponsor and /or you were in a free zone, even on a small scale. Please could someone let me know if this has changed? Are you now allowed to just sell select bits for a little 'pin' money as I would dearly like to do this. Any advice would be fabulous as I wouldn't want to get into trouble just sell a few bits I love and hope others would too and also helping myself and my friend in the process as we have both got too many commitments for a full time job and it might be fun and sociable too. Thanks in advance for any info. yes there are more "crafty stuff" nowadays like at yas but they have a licence to sell its still the same rules really you need to have proper license to have a business etc.

hi rainbow yes if you got a licence to do business in dubai you cannot do it in Abu Dhabi. You will need one in AD too. I have checked that. Every region gives its own licence. Abit of a pain i think.

hi rainbowbaby, I am in the same position as you. i am planning to open a care agency here and I am looking advice and guidance as well. I have actually written to the UKTI - united kingdom trade international for their advice as they are helping small businesses open here in Dubai for those wanting to do it from the U.K. my business is a lot different to yours so the regulations will be different. I also heard that you can open in any Dubai free zone because the nature of your business is different.
