So....shipping done, storage done, skip full, our lovely dog re homed, new tenant in our home, and the three of us, that is me and the two kids (Tom 12 Katie 9) are now living like Hobos, house sitting in mates homes till we leave to start our new adventure in AD end of the month! Of course hubby left 4 weeks ago, and has missed all the fun! I do have a couple of questions please... Does anyone know if you can take a saxophone on the airline as hand luggage and not pay extra for it? Also, from what my husband is telling me there seems to be lots of activities for boys/lads to do out in AD but what about girls? Of course there is lots of swimming and I think horse riding but Katie loves to sing and dance, are there any clubs for this? Thank you in advance of any comments back. X x Lizzy i think they will only charge you if a large instrument and requires extra seat and wouldnt fit in overhead locker etc. plenty of things for girls horse riding, ballet, brownies etc.

My daughter at uni now and always did lots of dance classes, but my info re dance classes may not be up to date. I think Arabesque is the best dance school http://www.abudhabidance.com/ If you join The Club, they have various dance and drama groups and may be a really good place for you to join: http://www.the-club.com/ Edited to add- have just looked at The Club site, it only has info re summer activities, but for sure ballet/jazz dance etc plus a drama group [and lots of other things'> will start. edited by ninap on 10/08/2013 edited by ninap on 10/08/2013

My daughter has travelled all over the world with her beloved bassoon-always takes it has hand luggage to safe guard it and hasn't had it included in her luggage allowance-most airlines do allow musical instruments but best to check with the airline you are using so there are no surprises

Hi Scrappy! You'll love living in Abu Dhabi, it's really a very easy place to live. Where will you be living and which school are your kids going to? My kids are older and now left home, but most of my friends have school-age kids and there seems to be LOTS of activities for them to do. You'll make friends very quickly - come along to the coffee mornings in Al Wadha Mall on Wednesdays, it's a great way to meet people. Good luck with the move!

Hello Sorry I probably won't be much help...if it's one of your hand luggage allowance 'pieces' and it's not over-size, I expect it will be ok and you won't be charged extra but I would suggest you ring the airline to check anyway...on the other note, sorry - two young pre-school boys, so not sure about singing/dancing, although am sure there will be some classes around....once you're here and get speaking to other mums, you'll probably find out more. Anyway, best of luck with the move! :) Deb

Tried to post earlier but site wouldn't let me. I live in Dubai not AD hence why I didn't post earlier. I don't know a lit about AD but do know there are Guides and Brownies. What school will your kids go to? Might be worth looking to see if there is a Facebook parents forum. I'm sure there will be activities but sorry I can't help more.

feeling a bit lonely as 87 people have viewed my message, but sadly no one has replied! First time I have used the website so keeping fingers crossed that someone out there in AD has a daughter like mine who also likes dancing and singing and also someone who knows about musical instruments! fingers crossed x
