Latest Traffic Guidelines in Abu Dhabi for Infrastructure Projects

These guidelines must be followed to ensure the highest safety standards on infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi

Earlier in September, Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Center (ITC) released the latest traffic rules, guidelines and other changes. These have now come into effect starting Thursday, 1st October 2020.

In an official tweet, the ITC added that the new regulations will be followed in Al Ain and Al Dhafra at the beginning of 2021.

The recent changes were implemented to ensure public safety, as well as to protect infrastructure and private and public facilities.

Fines will be given for the following violations:

  • Undergoing deep excavation that obstructs traffic without offering concrete barriers, or plastic barriers filled with water or sand
  • Parking vehicles working on the project that can obstruct traffic or threaten traffic safety
  • Not providing safe pedestrian or cycling paths on the work site
  • Not providing a safety official at the project's work site

Additionally, before undertaking any construction work that might cause traffic detours in Abu Dhabi, you must first obtain a traffic permit from ITC. Failure to do so will result in penalties.
