Used to spend a lot of time in Ams with work, stayed mainly in the American Hotel (was the Crowne Plaza in my day) and also the krasnapolsky - the newer rooms in the wing are more modern. Both are convenient and you can walk most places from them or hop on the tram from one end of downtown to the other. The Pulizer is lovely (featured in Ocean's 12 film). The NH hotel is also nice, but I haven't stayed there but it's a bit cheaper than the others. have a super time, don't go during the IBC conference annually (this year 9-13 Sept) ..... the whole of Ams is booked up!

Vote for Dikker en Thijs. Or if you want to spend The Dylan! Krasnapolsky is good.Close to Leidse Plein and Vondelpark is good. When are you planning to go. If you are there 29 and 30th of april avoid the center!

I used to stay in Amsterdam very frequently for work. My favourite hotels are: Hotel Arena - slightly out of the centre but easy by tram/bus. Quirky as was an old childrens home then a hostel so rooms have very odd proportions with v high ceilings but v friendly and the restaurant serves great if slightly expensive food. Dikker en Thijs Fenice Hotel - lovely place in the town centre, v close to tram so convenient access, this was my home from home all time favourite Hotel Rembrandt - in town and a bit expensive but clean and comfy, used to stay here if the other two were full Also for eating out if you want some traditional Dutch food in olde worlde surroundings visit Haesje Claes http://www.haesjeclaes.nl/

We love the Pulitizer, however it is exp. Why not get a houseboat on one of the canals? Dont forget to book for Anne Frank the queue is horrendous otherwise.

It depends how much you want to spend. Do you want to stay in the center? What are you planning to do. Just want to see Amsterdam?

It's our first trip to Amsterdam and we are looking for any 'insider information' of clean and comfortable places to stay. We have 2 teenagers. Thanks.
