another maid question - what should I do?
When we first moved here three years ago, we had a maid we really liked and my son adored. She was a very young, pretty Filipina girl. But unfortunately, we found she was stealing from us - not just a little bit, but a lot. We sat her down, warned her that she would be in big trouble if she did it again and gave her a second chance. But then, I found out she took my ATM card, found my pin number and withdrew money from my account. Obviously, we couldn't put up with that.
At the time, we didn't really know what we could do, so we released her, cancelled her visa and let her find herself new employment. From what I understand, before they could do her visa, she stole from them and was fired.
Now, she is coming to me saying that she wants to pay her overstay fines and go home to her family. She is sending me these pleading messages saying she has sold "Body and sole" to get the money for her fines. The trouble is, she says she needs us to take her to RAK, where her visa was issued, in order to pay the fines. She says she needs her sponsor to go with her to do it.
My feeling is that it won't be as simple as she thinks, we'll get redrawn back into it (our contact in RAK says we have no more responsibility towards her) and that we shouldn't do it. Bleeding heart DH thinks we should. What do you think?
