Thinking of staying here for a weekend trip to Muscat. Would be good to hear opinions, especially location for exploring the city. Thanks.

It has been a while since we last went but the rooms on the executive floor are quite spacious, still dated bathrooms however but the hotel has a wonderful location!

Well, you've made the decision very easy - Crowne Plaza it is then! Thanks so much - really appreciate the quick response. edited by Sue R on 05/02/2011

We always stay at the CP when we go to Muscat. It's one of the oldest hotels in MCT and shows its age a bit but we like it. The rooms aren't that big (small dated bathrooms) but are more than adequate for us as we don't spend much time in our room. It's in a great position on top of a bluff and looks down a long, long beach and has it's own small beach reached by stairs down the cliff. It's in a good position for exploring MCT, too. About halfway between the Grand Mosque and Muttrah souk. Don't know if it has re-opened after its refurb but the Armed Forces Museum is worth a visit if it is open.

We took a taxi to see around Muscat. Readily available and lovely, helpful chap. Its worth doing a half day sea fishing trip... Get to see the coastline and its stunning.

Yes. We stayed there last Spring. Its about 45 mins from the airport. Not a great deal around but loved the hotel. Smashing pool... Beach is down quite a few steps but lovely. The rooms were nice and clean...Ours had a massive balcony with sun loungers and a great view. I think it was The Chedi that had been highly recommended on here, so we went for a peep.... To be honest, we much preferred The Crown Plaza.... HTH
