Just to clarify, you've got your iPad configured to use a VPN that gives you a UK IP address? If you haven't done that, you will be able to listen to radio programmes but not watch TV programmes. If you do have it configured correctly for a UK VPN, then it's possible that the BBC has got clever and is preventing accesses from IP addresses known to be owned by VPN providers. EDIT - if you're getting the "try again later" error rather than the "not available in your area" error, then it's probably something to do with the internet slowdown, or maybe a fault at the BBC's end that is specific to the iPlayer app, in which case you'll just have to wait for the problem to resolve itself. BTW lspearing, the problem definitely ISN'T that your iPad "isn't powerful enough". Your iPad 1 (assuming that's what you've got) has the exact same processor power as every other iPad 1 in the world (ditto all iPad 2s). The fact that it's not 3G is irrelevant, since the iPlayer app requires you to be connected to wifi in order to stream TV programmes (it won't let you do it over 3G). edited by edna.welthorpe on 28/03/2011

It's very frustrating. I can use iplayer directly from safari. As in just www.bbciplayer.co.uk (I think that's the address) but I then went and downloaded the BBC iplayer app. Which looks uber sexy but can't get any programs to play on it only radio. Not on Du so that's not the problem and am still able to watch BBC iplayer on my pc (non Mac). Will keep trying and let you know if I reach a solution....

I have the basic original iPad 16GB and with everything switched on I can access iplayer fine through the web site on Safari BUT I get the same error as you if using the dedicated app. So, go to iPlayer through the bbc.co.uk/iplayer web site and you should be fine, apart from the Du cable problem of course....

I have the same problem and am also running all the necessary "bits" to be able to watch iplayer outside of the UK. Same ipad as you (32gb non-3g) and this was before some numpty cut the Du cable. I vaguely remember seeing an iplayer app but didn't get around to investigating it. If I manage to solve this problem I will post on here and if you manage to solve it before me...... :)

Are you usually able to watch the iPlayer here on a computer? I am able to listen to BBC radio with no problem, but am banned from watching TV on my computer because I am not in the UK. As you know, there are ways and means around this and perhaps you need to use them on your iPad? P.S. Also, if you are with Du, it might be affected by the fact someone cut through an undersea cable last week and the Du internet connection has been iffy ever since. edited by simpleasabc on 28/03/2011

I finally managed to set up my iPad 32GB with all necessary to watch things on BBC iplayer app BUT when I click play on a program it takes ages and the says something like "unable to play right now try again later" the radio part works? Any ideas? Do you think my iPad is not powerful enough. It is the 32GB and not the 3G version either. Was really hoping to get it up and working .....
