When we first came to live here 6 years ago British passport holders were given 60 days on arrival. Its been 30 days for quite some time now.

Yes, it is right. You get 30 days which then can be extended/renewed once for an additional fee of GBP100 for a further 30 days, hence it allows the holder to stay for 60 days. Or do a visa run ... yes you get a free 30 day visa, and yes you can pay 500 dhs here in immigration once only to extend for 30 days then you would need to do visa runs.

From the UAE Embassy in London: http://www.uaeembassyuk.net/ UK Citizens – Visit Visa Citizens of the UK (with right of abode in the UK) will be granted a free of charge visit visa on arrival in the UAE. No application in advance of travel is necessary. Your passport will simply be stamped with the visit visa as you pass through Immigration at any airport in the UAE. Although the visa may be stamped for 30 days, it entitles the holder to stay in the country for 60 days and may be renewed once for an additional period of 30 days for a fee of £100. Please note that holders of British Overseas Citizens Passport who do not have the right of abode in the UK do need visas to enter the UAE. HTH this is not right, its 30 days, when was this information dated. my mother who comes here twice a year has just left, she had 30 days which is now standard as her visa.
