Company policy, our big boss hates booze. I've had the argument that they then basically force us to break the law - to no avail. Here's a different perspective... Many Muslims consider, not only the drinking of alcohol to be harram, but also the distribution, supply and any form of association with it... The big boss may well be quite a devote Muslim and thus see the approval of an alcohol license as also a sin on him, as he is enabling the supply of alcohol. Not wanting to stir the pot but just putting up a different perspective as to why he will not approve it. No absolutely Izzy and that's totally understandable. But you can understand the frustration of wanting to abide by the law and just not being able to. Everyone must carry a license to buy, transport, have in the home or even consume alcohol. Especially in light of the new reports where they say, they're going to start enforcing things much more.

I wouldn't have the conversation of what named companies will do illegally for you on a public forum, or soon enough you'll be having the conversation of 'how could they shut down the said company'. ah yes, but we're talking about BUYING without a licence - not selling !! lol

Please do get a licence- it is very simple and will avoid any unneccessary complications for you- our guide to how to do it is here: http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_faqs_EW_guide_to_getting_an_alcohol_license_4649.aspx It's not about that you don't need a licence to buy from other Emirates- you do need one to have alcohol in your home here in Dubai.

Really not that fussed to be honest, just go to Ajman or UAQ. But the point is, you're meant to have a license to even drink in a bar, club or restaurant, so in that respect it can cause problems.

manu, has anyone you know done it? how many times could one get away with it? dunno but it's easy to get a license, I think Oh, I am just asking out of curiosity. Not always, many local companies will not sign the form to get a licence, ours doesn't. That's mean Company policy, our big boss hates booze. I've had the argument that they then basically force us to break the law - to no avail. Wonder if they are breaking the labour law? Would be an interesting test case. Infringement of your human right to consume alcohol. Get Amnesty International involved, I dare you....

manu, has anyone you know done it? how many times could one get away with it? Yes all the time! One A&E serves me all the time even though I don't have a licence. They just say so long as you live locally and they know you, they don't mind. So many people I know do it.

but, do they really ask everyone for a license? You can try the old 'oh I forgot my licence' line, or go in and ask for the forms to apply and they usually ask if you want anything.
