Good Morning Ladies,
We are gettng ready to leave the UAE to live in Cyprus :).
We wish to take our dog Molly with us on the same flight.
I have been in touch with Emirates who say as long as Molly and her crate do not weigh more than 32kg she can go as excess baggage.
I was wondering if any of you ladie s have travelled with their dogs this way and if you have any advise for me ?
Molly has her passport,,all her vacs and rabies jabs up to date, also know that we need to get import/export papers and health check from vet and deworming...anything else?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Donna.

It is ridiculous and it can be done much cheaper. You must do your research online and talk direct with the airlines. In general if the cat flies on the same flight as you, it's much cheaper and goes as excess baggage. But if you are flying separately, you need to basically pay the price of a ticket for the cat plus associated expenses. Hi Green queen - am going to be relocationg to nairobi too in Sept - i asked moveone to help me take my persian kitty home, but its gonna cost me a whopping 7000aed - is it worth it?

Thanks :) Just make sure that ALL paperwork is up to date and I do mean all, we had a problem with the fact that we had not got a certain certificate with the right stamp however lots of stamping and shouting and then tears sorrted it and we all left inclusing pooch lol Much better than trying to get somehting moved here lol

I took my dogs with me from Dubai to Nairobi many years ago as 'excess baggage'. It was pretty straightforward - took them right up to the check in counter back then (in their cages of course), weighed them right there, paid the charges and then they took them from there. Am not sure how much it helps, but just ask the people at check-in if they can confirm your dog is on the flight and is ok. You can also do that once you get on the flight. Basically, if you make enough noise, they will check and make sure your pet got on the flight and is fine. Like you said, it's a very short flight so I'm sure he'll be fine. Good luck!

Thanks Elmsnre, I'm asking for abit of advise because my hubby's abit concerned about this:) Molly's our baby and he's worrying where she'll go in the hold etc lol!! The flight over to Cyprus is a short one ..only three hours....and really dont want to get a company in for such a short trip. The lady at Emirates quoted me dhs110 per kg for excess baggage...well Molly only weighs 11kg and her size crate around 7kg. Have a good Day ! Yes she can go as excess we sent ours to Cyp that way with EK :)

Mine came as cargo, but would be interested to hear how they cost that compared to freight. Pretty sure my lads would weigh in under 32kg. Let us know how it goes... and safe travels. edited by emlsnre on 16/03/2011
