BH has been many times too-he just felt the security was more oppressive this time round-might just be his impression but he thought things were a bit tense this time round Do agree Petra is wonderful though edited by wuffles on 12/02/2011

Re. Security, it was like this 5 years ago, so I think the actual situation didn't change much for now. (metal portal at entrance of hotels, at least 4 check up points on the road to the airport (and real ones where militars check identity, ask for purpose of travel, see the boot of the car, etc...). IMO, better to go now than wait and & go later. We had this reflection for Lebanon and eventually went last week-end. We had a fantastic week-end without any disturbance or any uncomfortable situations. Actually, we barely have seen 1 check point who barely looked at us... For Jordan, Petra : If you can, stay at least 2 days and check the dates : I think twice a week they do the evening excursion and it's completely magical. I would suggest to do first the evening (i.e. arrive there afternoon, rest a little in hotel and the go to evening excursion - with warm clothes) and then, the next day, go for the normal tour. We did so and all the family was completely trilled by the magic of the place night time, and I think the fact it was our first time there played a lot.

I want to book a holiday in jordan where do people suggest going and are there any big protests happening? Should we avoid Jordan completely or just some areas?
