hi we have 2 turtles, they are red ear ones, about the size of a big saucer. how much should they now be fed and how often?
we have them outside now in a plastic type pond we bought in ace, they are in semi shade.
any recommendations on how to look after them
any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

They are great pets, but I was surprised to learn just how much there is to keeping them healthy and happy. Lots of wonderful websites out there like - http://www.redearslider.com/ or http://www.redearedslider.net/ We only had ours for a short time before having to rehome them when we left Dubai...as a result I'm a bit foggy on the details now. I do know that we bought one of the most recommended pellet foods called ReptoMin and a small container of gammarus as rare treats (too fatty to include regularly) and we made sure they got lots of fresh veges - grated carrot is a favourite. Getting the amount of food right is important too so they don't grow too fast. Be careful with them outdoors as they need a very specific temp range to survive and the summer in Dubai will be FAR too hot unless you can chill the water. They also need a lot of water to remain healthy, regular water changes and somewhere that they can get completely out of the water to dry off daily. edited by Green-ish on 24/03/2011
