Hi all,

took my darling cat to the vet for her check up yesterday and it seems she picked up some mites.. I was given some ointment to put into her ears twice a day but this is proving to p!ss her off majorly - she bit me today (so unlike her) - does anyone have any experience with this ? Could you please advise me what i can do to make the treatment easier on the both of us?

By the way - she has a thing with her ears - hates them getting cleaned!

Not wanting to start a debate at all ladies but you only have to type in google "are ear mites painful to cats" to see the results. Anyway with the treatment she will be fine in no time.

When I first adopted my lad he had ear mites, it took constant care, and endless eardrops. As said not painful for the poor cat, but annoying for them. All good now thou,

Sorry, mites are not painful - just a constant irritant. Revolution will take care of the problem. If you have a competent vet - that is what they'll prescribe

Do it when she is asleep or wrap her up in a towel so she cant scratch. When you get the drops in the ear, massage her ears so the liquid get everywhere. She will be in a little bit of pain from the mites so be strong and go for it!

Fluffypie, when I got my kitten at 3 months old, she came with earmites :( Yes full package!! Anyway the vet gave an ointment to put in her ears twice a day and it was a very ugly task to do, I kept doing it twice daily for a week and the kitten showed clearly how much she hated me for doing this to her, sometimes she even looked at me with sad eyes like saying "Why are you doing this to me?" When the earmites were no longer much showing on her ears (but were still actually living inside the ears but I didn't see them), I stopped using the ointment and I didn't follow the vets' directions. The kitten kept shaking her head a lot and trying to scratch inside her ears.. So I took her to another vet at that time for her 2nd shot of vaccination and he told me that the kitten still have earmites and asked me to keep using the ointment for another month.. anyway despite that the kitten was not happy, I kept doing it because the vet told me that it is not easy to get rid of earmites quickly... The kitten kept trying to bite at the beginning but soon she realized that she will not win the game with me so she eventually stopped biting and started actually to stand for me to put the ointment and only give me that sad look :(

I believe the product is called Revolution - it is a liquid that it applied between the shoulder blades (where Kitty can't get at it easily) and like Frontline for fleas - it "spreads" over the animal and eliminates the mites. I had to have my 3 done when no. 3 (bin cat) managed to spread his problem to the others. Works very well.
