I have a question which might not be easy to answer.
I have family visiting in April and one of them (older lady who loves her glass of redwine before bed) ask if she can drink when at my appartment.
Neither me or my husband has alchohol license so I we cannot buy it for her, but what if she buys it in the airport herself?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find anything in the old threads, and searching in the Internet dit not give any answer.
If no one can answer, do any of you know where I can find the answer? No government homepages come up when searching on Dubai alchohol laws - so frustrating!
Thanks :)

some of you people make me laugh - why oh why do these threads always get down to 'it's illegal' ? Yeah, we all know that - but really, who is giong to care if your visitors are drinking alcolhol in your house ? Who is giong to know ? (well except the whole of EW now you've posted this LOL). As someone else says be sensible, no naked dancing in the street, no abusing the neighbours. It's not like the police are going to knock on your door and say 'excuse me madame, are your visitors drinking alcohol illegally ?' LOL They sell it at the airport for god's sake - what do they think the visitors are going to do with it ? Clean the toulets ? As long as you are sensible really, the authorities really don't care. If they did Dubai would be like Saudi; and it's not. EXACTLY !!!!!! LovinDubai - get a life and get a grip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for reply - all of them ;) I thought it would be a 'problem', espcially since we do not have license. I do not think anyone would ever find out though. Well, I will have to make up my mind what to tell her. Just wondering, where does one read these rules?

I dont think its even technically legal for a license holder to drink alcohol, the license is just to transport it right? Regardless, the police certainly have far more serious crimes than a tourist's dinner drink to worry about. No driving ever when having a drink, no public intoxication, and you will all be just fine.

Lovindubai, take a chill pill. OK the OP now knows its illegal, if they want to chance it let them, not for us to dictate what they should or shouldnt do.

It is illegal for a visitor to drink alcohol in a unlicence property.

she can buy the wine at the airport duty free. It is against the law to consume it in your home though as you do not have a license and neither does she. If she was staying in ahotel and drinking in said hotel that would be the place :). But, having said that, If no one tells. Have her put it in her suitcase before getting in your car. We have visitors and are not about to tell them they cannot have a drink in our home with the doors shut :) ...I would think the police have better things to do at the moment and I have not heard expats getting arrested unless they have been drunk and disorderly.
