We live an apartment and we too get people at the door even though you need a swipe card to get through the main entrance, mostly offering CDs/DVDs but also cleaning etc. Worse is the amount of paper that gets shoved under our door - slips offering maid services, ads for take aways etc. Sometimes I wonder how our door opens. And a new development this week; not once but three times so far the same pizza company has left their A4 glossy sheets on my doormat outside the apartment... looking down the corridor its fairly obvious to see who is away as the fliers are still outside their doors hours later. Fortunately the cleaner picks them all up each morning. No way am I ordering anything from them.

Just snap or shout at one of them and the message will get around quick not to ring your door bell :) Yup, the maid 'tom-tom' will eventually do its work. ;) We had the same when we moved into our villa a few years ago -- every gardener/helper in the district was turning up begging for work -- but it did drop off dramatically when I [a'> pointed out our gardener's bike and [b) told people our maid was due to arrive in a few days from her home country. <em>edited by WaxMuch on 08/03/2011</em>

Don't worry, they'll give up in the end. They'll all get the message soon! It's so annoying though. If we'd just moved in now and had the doorbell ringing at all hours disturbing DS's sleep I'd be letting the dogs answer it.

We've been in AR's for one week now and the doorbell has not stopped ringing. Every evening I have had at least 2-3 people show up to our door and introduce themselves and ask if we need part-time cleaning or a gardener. First off, I want our own personal live-in so I'm not interested in part-time cleaning and I know our yard looks like death warmed over b/c the previous tenant never watered it, but I love to garden so I will have it whipped into shape myself in no time. It's not a big deal at all but really, how long will people keep knocking on the door trying to find work? Will this end when they start to see our own maid here? LOL For heaven's sake I'm trying to get caught up on Desperate Housewives in the evening and this is cramping my TV time constantly answering the door. :)
