Hello lovely ladies. I should probably be posting this on a man's website, but just in case there are any car enthusiasts out there I need some pearls of wisdom. DH and I need to buy a second car. We love the Land Rover Discovery but have heard that they are pretty unreliable. We can not really spend more than about 20,000 AED. Any thoughts on what would be the best buy? Cheers

well we are the 3rd owner of our landrover discovery which we brought outright for 24000 aed last aug. its the 2nd version(i think thats what you call it and 2002 model). touch wood we have not had any real problems so far and minor things that have happened have been repaired very quickly by A to B garage in al quoz. so dont be too hasty to discount getting one especially as lots of people leave at the end of summer term and want a quick sell!

also, not sure that he will want to pay that much. We want to buy outright as don't want the cost of a bank loan. If anyone is selling a reliable 4x4 or even saloon for 20,00AED please let me know. Am having serious second thoughts about a discovery.

Thanks ladies. boo on the disco side -but great news cat-trax about your Pajero. That could work brilliantly (if I can convince DH to let go of the land rover dream!) How can I get in touch. Never entirely sure how to post e-mails on here....

Noooooooo! Don't go there with the Discovery - they rust out from the bottom up! Plus all the lines and pipes also corrode very quickly. They're just not built for this heat, they're for trudging around wet, muddy fields. If you want a pretty good reliable 4x4, you could do worse than to look at a Pajero, they seem to go on forever. I second, third and fourth this! We had an older Discovery which cost us more in repairs than we sold it for. As soon as you plug one leak, another springs! I love the shape too and have a Series 3 land rover in the UK, but I'd not touch another one here.
