We have just moved to Dubai in August and myself and two young kids are going to have to do a visa run to Oman in the next week or so. Any advise? Specifically, is there anywhere to stop along the way? I will be in a rented car-I believe I need insurance documents. Anything else? Can I pay both fees in dirhams or do I need Omani currency? I believe it gets very busy over Eid so should probably go as soon as possible. Many thanks for any tips.

Please check with immigration before you go. A friend recently tried to do a visa run (British passport holder) and was told she couldn't had ha to leave the country for 30 days before coming back in. She stayed and now has 3,000dhs in overstay fines. Something is definitely UP at the moment.
