We have two leather sofas and an arm chair which we've had for about six years. We have never had any problems with them but since arriving in Dubai the leather has started bubbling and peeling. Almost like it is vinyl (although I'm pretty sure we didn't pay vinyl prices for them!). The furniture doesn't get any sun on it and are cleaned everyday with just a damp cloth and moisturised about once a month. Has anyone else come across this? Could it be the air con or humidity? Many thanks.

Leather can be classed as leather if its coated leather or hide leather .. coated leather is made up of lesser quality leather pasted onto a fabric backing thats why it peels - it makes the leather stronger to sit on but peels very quickly .. hide leather is the best but will carry nicks and scrapes .. I dont believe that there is anything you can do to salvage it ones it starts peeling . my sister had a disaster with a sofa in the UK from DFS - they use the same "Fabric" on some of their sofas .. edited by bowbellscowbells on 19/03/2011

We have leather sofas from the One. Ours are also falling apart but are 9 years old and have heavy use. They are definitely leather - can tell from the bits falling off!!

Funnily enough we bought a VERY expensive white "leather " suite from the one and after just 1 year no HARD wear it began to peel and reveal a fabric underneath and it cost a lot of money ! However in my home ( real home ) I have a beige leather suite which is 5 years old and is absolutely fine - strange edited by pepps on 19/03/2011

I have a couple of lovely antique-leather sofas in my family room which have had kids and cats on for almost 10 years and no problems at all. In a different room, I have had 3 leather sets - all of which have peeled. Like you, I thought that maybe they weren't leather, but who can tell? The one I have in there now is from Ikea and so far so good. But that's not all, my dining room chairs - for which I paid leather prices at The One - have all started to bubble (tiny ones) but not peeling. They look awful though as they've lost their sheen. No one can tell me what it is. None of these chairs or sofas are in the sun or directly under an AC. Can't understand why my family room sofas have lasted almost 10 years and the others were peeling in a year or two. Anyone else have any ideas on this?
