Visitors can only drive hire cars, even if they have a UAE licence

I asked my insurance company (Axa) a while ago and they said the answer was no. Even if they had said yes, I am not sure I would have trusted the answer. Trouble is out here is that you can ring the company twice, speak to two different people and get two different answers!! Would not be comfortable in the event of an accident. Best way is to rent a hire care, then you know they are covered 100 %.

Probably a good idea to ask your insurance company too.

Also check with your insurance company to make sure they are covered, as if, God forbid, they are in an accident and someone dies then they would be liable for blood money.

according to the police website they are allowed to do this. Anyone else had any experience with this?!?! ------------------------------- HOLDERS OF CHANGEABLE DRIVING LICENCES : ( See the list of the countries their licenses are changeable) . It is allowed to the visitor, tourist, or transit arrival holding of driving license issued from any country scheduled in the list of changeable licenses, to drive vehicles not owned by them or drive a rented car from Dubai provided :- 1. the entry visa is issued from Dubai 2. the driving license is valid and for the same type. In case the visitor would like to drive outside Emirate of Dubai , a temporary driving license must be issued .

this should help http://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/dp/english/e_services.jsp?Page=A26&Id=2056&num2=INF&num=INF&mainlayid=196 I am sure they had changed the law and this could possibly be it? But!!! to be 100% sure...pop over to a police station with their drivers license and ask :) edited by SueB on 16/03/2011 edited by SueB on 16/03/2011
