In the main LG appliances are very good. I don't have their dishwasher but have been using my LG washing machine for three years without any problems. My DH used to sell/repair LG in the UK and, in his opinion, they are excellent machines.

Thanks ladies. I've been going through ads on Dubizzle and have noticed quite a few LG dishwashers for sale. Is it because they sell more in this region or because they tend to be more problematic? Have googled known LG dishwasher problems and could not find too much wrong with them. I realise that sometimes you can get a lemon but just want first hand experience on owning one. Also, is it better to purchase new or second hand? Not sure how long we plan to be around so I don't want to be stuck with more white goods to get rid of when we do decide to trek.

I have a Siemens. Bought it secondhand when it was 12 months old but had hardly been used. That was three years ago and (touch wood) not one bit of trouble with it.

I have an integrated Whirlpool dishwasher. Nearly 11 years old and the only time it broke down was last year because the maid put something too big in and it broke one of the arms. Otherwise it has never failed and goes on twice a day and 3 or 4 times a day on the weekends. Al Ghandi are the agents.

Look for a dishwasher that has easy to clean spraying arms. I had one where we could open the arms in 1/2 and clean the small holes. The one I have now I need to clean unblock the holes with a toothpick. I have 6 programs but use just 2...
