I just bought a Singer Tradition - was under 600- and although I'm not an expert - I havent done any sewing for years it was very easy to use without spending hours figuring it out - plenty enough different stitches for me and not too heavy at all

I have a Brother and it is great! I also have my Mom's old Singer (she bought it in Doha in 1968) and that is great too! Just heavy to move around.

Hello ladies! I really need help. I'll be buying a portable sewing machine for my mother as a gift and Im torn between these 2 brands (Singer and Brother). Singer seems more expensive for less number of sticth patterns. Ive been reading reviews online and looks like Singer is not as reliable as it used to be. However, I didnt even know about Brother sewing machines until I started to look (maybe because Im not interested in sewing?). So, if you ladies own one of these brands, which one would you recommend? Im especially looking at these models: Singer 8280, Singer 2263, Singer 2250 and Brother BM3600, BM2600, BM3500. Thanks very much in advance!
