We are going to Thailand in early April. First Bangkok for a couple of days then up to Chiang Rai for trekking, etc. Malaria - the more I read the more confused I become. Seems for Bangkok malaria is not a danger, but further north it may be. Has anyone been up there and if so did you take anti-malaria tablets?

For sure you don't need them in BKK, Chiang Rai and Chang Mai (we used to live there). Always drink bottle water, and if you are going for short time use bottle water to brush your theeth. Never drink tap water (not even thai people does).

I didn't take malaria tablets when i went although I only really went to Chang Mai in the north. from memory there are problems once you get higher up and more into the mountains and closer to the borders. This may help www.traveldoctor.info Have a great time
