The Princess Royal visits the hospice where I work every year and she is a gem, sitting on patients beds to chat, listening to and comforting distraught relatives. She does all the things that Diana was credited for doing "first" way before she came on the scene. Last time I was on duty during her visit, she remembered meeting me the previous year and asked how my voluntary work in South Africa was doing!!! She can't be bothered with all the security stuff and refuses to be hurried by her "minions" when she over runs her time with us. Yes, I am a royalist and looking forward to the big wedding :D

I like 'em! Wouldn't want to be one and wouldn't wish that pressure or scrutiny on anyone, especially in this day and age. People seem to forget they are only human under those titles. Virtually all of them, centuries past, have done silly (even stupid) things in their time but in the old days, little indiscretions were swept under the carpet, the Royal dignity protected, it's only in the last 30 years or so that the paparazzi seem out to hound the poor bu99ers and dish the dirt with great relish. They are an old-fashioned, quaint British institution, long may they stay, warts and all, bless 'em and their little royal cotton socks! :D

Too smart for her own good in many ways, SW. ;) I wouldn't wish a Royal life on anyone, especially from that generation. M was one of the most intelligent nicest Royals i ever had the pleasure to meet.

Wasn't clear sorry, was referring to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Prince Harry......William perhaps.....Princess Anne's daughter and son seem to be very down-to-earth and nice. Fair enough. But there are idiots in every generation. Mustique Margaret wasn't exactly 'great shakes' on the charity front. ;) Hope you are not suggesting (RIP) Marge was an idiot!

Which 'younger generations'? The Princess Royal is one of the most tireless workers in The Firm.

I love the Queen and the old style glamour...just not sure if the younger generations are 'worth it', mostly they show themselves to be a waste of space - early days for them though, time will tell. edited by Pomegranate on 15/03/2011
