Dubai Police Arrest Metro Passenger for "Indecent" Public Dancing Without a Mask

The public are required to follow the UAE's Covid-19 safety rules and guidelines.

Dubai Police has arrested a man filmed dancing without a mask on the Dubai Metro, for violating the UAE's Covid-19 rules and public decency laws.

The passenger has been fined AED 5,000 and may face up to six months in jail over the "indecent public act".

According to Brigadier Obaid Al Hathboor, Director of Transportation Security Department at Dubai Police, the man was recorded in a Dubai Metro ride, "disturbing other passengers with his inappropriate actions" and "showing disrespectful and insensitive behaviours toward the people around him".

UAE citizens and residents must follow the Covid-19 precautionary measures put in place by authorities, to help reduce the spread of the virus and safeguard the community.

Videos of the man dancing was shared on social media, including on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Tiktok. Some clips showed him dancing without a face mask, while in others the same man was wearing a face mask.

As of Monday June 7, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention reported 1,968 new Covid-19 cases, along with 1,933 recoveries and three deaths.

The total number of cases in the UAE is now at 585,039, out of which 564,509 recovered. The death toll rises to 1,702.
