Fun Family Favourites to do this Winter
Winter is finally upon us, as we battle with the a/c (on or off) and start venturing outside for the evening jog many are looking for new ways to spend time as a family without the restrictions of the indoors.
As we say goodbye to the movies and the shopping malls (for now) we venture into Dubai’s great outdoors for some fun and festive family time this winter.
It seems odd to call it winter when the sun is still scorching but the mercury has definitely gone down, and night time romps in the park or at the marina have got people reaching for their thin cardies and wraps. The beach has also become extremely pleasant with more and more residents mixing it up with Dubai’s regular flock of tourists.
So what family friendly things are out there?

Amusement parks: It has been too hot and sticky to visit the amusement park until now. Get the whole family together and have fun rides and a grand family adventure at one of the UAE’s amazing amusement parks.
Tennis: Is there an outdoor tennis court in the building or compound where you live. Make some freshly squeezed lemonade and invite your daughter’s best friend and her mom for a game of doubles and some girly gossip in the sun. Alternatively make it a family thing and jump into the pool afterwards. Just remember to apply the SPF if this is a daytime game.
Walking: Take the other half and the little ones for walks around the area where you live. Who knows maybe you’ll discover a great hidden eatery or a cute dress shop. Once you’re done with your neighborhood, move on to an interesting place that you have always wanted to explore.
Al Ain Zoo: The animals will not be hiding in their enclosures when the mercury drops and you’ll be able to see the chimps playing and the flamingos grooming. The zoo always promises to be a great time for the kids, and it’s educational as well.

A Dhow Cruise: Now is the perfect time to have a Dhow dinner cruise. It’s a little on the pricey side but if you have older kids they will appreciate the dressing up and the dinner. Dhow cruises always offer spectacular views of the city from a different perspective and your tween or teen will be able to experience a more adult take on a night out.
Safa Park: The Park has always been a family favourite as it has luscious greens, sports venues and barbecue areas that can be enjoyed by a family or a large group of friends.
Hiking in Al Ain: Al Ain is different to the other Emirates as it has mountains that are perfect for a little stay-cation. The hiking promises to be beautiful and adventurous and the hotels are fun to stay in. You could also just go for the day. If you are lucky you may experience the occasional rain shower that occurs in this mountainous region.
Camping: Now is the time to camp. Get a few families together and take the kids into the dunes of the desert for a weekend camping trip. Remember to bring lots of blankets as the nights get quite chilly. Then have a barbecue and let the kids roast marshmallows and tell scary stories.
Water parks: Hit the water this summer, get a tan and have fun while the kids go on rides and slides and splash around. Most water parks have dedicated ladies only days. This is great for some mother-daughter bonding.
Whatever the plan there are plenty of choices for some fun (and free!!) activities for the whole family to enjoy this winter.
