The UAE has won the honour of hosting World Expo 2020 in Dubai

Expo2020

The whole of the World Wide Web was abuzz with activity last night where the majority of us took to popular areas in Dubai, turned on our television screens, tuned into the radio, got on Facebook and Twitter to experience the Delegations of the World Expo 2020 vote in order to choose one of four nations to be the host in 2020.

When Dubai won the bid it was like someone had lit a fire in all of our hearts, we were a nation united by the bid and all Nationals and Expats came together and celebrated like a big family. The delegations cheered for us and these cheers could be heard across the world, from Paris, where the voting was held, to Dubai! It was a wonderful scene to behold.

Once the bid was announced we celebrated in true Dubai style with festive fireworks from the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai. And the country will continue to celebrate this win over the weekend and through to National Day where a new wave of celebrations will hit us.

Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015 had this to say, "Congratulations to Dubai for being awarded the Expo 2020 We are very glad to hand over the World Fair to a country and a continent that have never hosted it. It is important to emphasize that this decision reflects the spirit that has characterized the choice of Milan: an important and central topic, which the Participating Countries are asked to rework. The selected theme for Dubai "Connecting Minds , Creating the Future", is in line with the project we are carrying out , ideal conclusion of the route we are taking. The sharing of knowledge and expertise leads to today’s and tomorrow’s awareness and create the conditions for improving the present and the future of humanity. I sent a letter to Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Managing Director of the Committee of Dubai Expo 2020 to congratulate for their achievement. The quality of the Dubai proposal and its international strategic role make it the ideal place to host such a widely appealing and able to create economic growth and development event. From our experience, we know how important it is to work together on shared ideas and expertise: this is how we have built the project of Expo Milano 2015. I am sure that our Expo and Dubai 2020 will establish a strong and fruitful relationship, which will mark a time of growth and success for future editions of the event."

ExpatWoman would like to extend our congratulations to The UAE and Dubai for all the hard work and effort that went into making this dream a reality.

Note: In order to mark the occassion all schools in Dubai will be closed until Tuesday the 3rd of December 2013
