In 2018, citizens and residents in Dubai and the rest of the country will honour the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nayhan, to celebrate the 100th year since the late leader’s birth.
In the year ahead, it will be remembered how HH Sheikh Zayed built the UAE we live in today, his role in establishing the federation and his local, regional and international successes. The country will also embrace his values of wisdom, respect, determination and loyalty, which will continue to be installed throughout the UAE community.

The theme was announced last year by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, President of the UAE, on the anniversary of Sheikh Zayed’s Accession Day, when he became the leader of Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Khalifa stated “The Year of Zayed is a great national occasion when we will proudly share memories of the life of the Founding Father,” as Sheikh Zayed’s principles helped to create the Emirati identity, his pioneering spirit will be established in initiatives throughout 2018.
In an effort to preserve Sheikh Zayed’s legacy in 2018, the Burj Khalifa was lit up in his honour throughout Dubai’s New Year’s Eve light show.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also paid tribute to Sheikh Zayed, describing him as the “builder of a nation” who will “inspire generations for hundreds of years to come.”

With projects, events and awards already planned in Sheikh Zayed’s name, his vision of tolerance, progression, charity and leadership is expected to be promoted in the UAE during the year dedicated to the Emirates former ruler.
It will be a year of pride, not only for Emiratis, but also the expatriates living in Dubai and the UAE, who adopt Sheikh Zayed’s beliefs and work hard to live in the country he lead.
As we all celebrate the nation’s founding father, we're excited to see how Sheikh Zayed will be remembered in 2018!
