Deira is the old centre of Dubai and offers a mixed bag of accommodation. Some new developments are mixed in with largely older buildings.
Rent here is much cheaper than the new areas of Dubai. These areas are densely populated and there are ample shops, markets, restaurants and bars to cater for them.
These areas are very busy due to the old central business district being based along The Creek. There is plenty to do and this is seen as the more cultural part of Dubai. There is also the presence of many 5 star hotels with renowned bars and restaurants. Large malls are present across this area with the most famous being Deira City Centre Mall. This area is preferred by those seeking a more traditional and cultural way of life over the more glitzy and western parts of the new Dubai.
Perfect for: Families, couples & singletons on a budget

I Lived There...
Name: Mike
How long in Dubai? 8 years
How long in your area? 2 years
Family circumstance: Single
A bit about me/ us: Young professional and a first time expat in Dubai
Deira is the heart of the old Dubai and there are few new buildings. There are flats and very few old villas. The main accommodations here are studios and two bed and three bed flats. Most of the buildings have security guards and is safe.
Facilities:
Few buildings have facilities like gym, pool and dining area but there are several hotels where you can use the hotel facilities. There are some good restaurants around like Aros Damascus and Al Mandhi serving Middle Eastern cuisine. You have also the Dubai Metro which makes travel from one place to another convenient. Deira City Centre is one of the most visited places in Dubai. Other shopping centres include Al Reef Mall and Al Ghurair Centre. If you are looking to spend some time over the weekend, Bastakiya Museum, Deira Gold Souq and Dubai Deira Creek are available.
Why I liked living there:
I lived near Deira Clock Tower for two years and absolutely enjoyed it. Deira City Centre is just a few meters away and Dubai Metro makes life easier for commuters. Deira is served by public buses as well. It might get heavy traffic during peak hours in the morning and evening on the roads. The flats in Deira are quite cheap compare to other prime locations in Dubai.
