Hi. DS is aged 10 months and breastfed along with 3 meals per day. To date iv not given him any vitamin supplements but he has had bronchitis twice recently...so am not sure if i should start to boost his immune system?? any thoughts, any brands you would recommend? Very undecided at the moment.

Another thing to consider is how clean the air is in the house and in other places you frequent (including outdoors). Dust and allergens (and things like tobacco smoke) in the air can irritate and cause bronchitis as well. So maybe an air purifier, cleaning out the a/c vents and the like might help as well. It's tough to know how clean "your" air is since you can't see it -- even if you keep a clean house, the air from vents and outside can be "dirty." There are also probably times of the day when the dust/sand in the air is much higher than others, so maybe avoid going out during those times.

Just wanted to add that the average baby gets 8-10 colds in their first year, so getting sick is not necessarily a sign of deficiency, just the baby building his immune system.

I agree with Happymommy. The only things I would consider are vitamin D if he is at risk of deficiency (e.g. if you yourself are low, and/or if he doesn't get much sunlight) and iron if he doesn't get much in his diet (once solids are introduced, absorption of iron in breastmilk goes down so it's important to include iron-rich foods such as red meat, chicken, apricots, iron-enriched cereals or dark leafy greens etc - if this is happening, no need for iron supps).

I'd try to up his intake of natural vitamins by feeding a lot of fruit and vegetables. Natural vitamins are so much better than the artificial stuff. And it sets the right pattern for the future and establish healthy eating patterns. If you're worried about his health get him checked out by the paed first in order to rule out any other causes.
