DD, aged 13 has been having some problems with 3 boys at school who keep picking on her and being really nasty to her. We thought she had sorted it all out but now she found out that they've been talking about her behind her back on the bus. She doesn't know exactly what they said because her friends who do know, don't want to tell her because they said she'd be too hurt if she knew.

I really don't know what to tell her or what she should do. I feel I'm too involved in it to have a balanced perspective. Should she try and find out what they said or just ignore them with the hope that they'll get bored and move on? Any impartial advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't generally post on these threads as i think parents have a better knowledge of how to deal with their own children in regard to how mature etc they are. BUT..... Not knowing the facts, and from experience, i would suggest that you advise your daughter to just look at them in a condescending and pitying way and ignore them. Chances are they are trying to get her attention, albeit in a strange sort of way..... And don't forget girlfriends at that age can be pretty coniving too... Ah...13yr old daughters..... Don't worry, they'll soon be 16 and you'll lose even more sleep!!!! Bless. x

if it was me, tho i have boys so am no use really !! - if she is comfortable with you taking action "behind the scenes" as in approaching the school then fine but i would say as far as the boys go - ignore them, don't bother trying to find out what they're saying, they'll only continue as long as they think it's bothering her... and how is it that her friends know and she doesn't ? would it be time to be looking for some different company maybe ? Hope she's ok..

She should eb flattered, they probably fancy her rotten..... More seriously, if it has been going on for a while it's bullying, either go to the school, or their parents.... But it's a tricky one to sort out... Would the friends tell you? I think you need to know what they are saying to tackle it. Learning to turn the other cheek is important, it depends how it is affecting her....
