If all the precautions said below fails, try herbal treatment. I started using a special herbal oil prescribed by herbal doctor. I can definitely see an improvement.

Don't worry, be happy that you're taking the first step. It could be the water, (i've also started using that shampoo for desalinated water and saw an improvement too), or something more but at least after seeing a doctor, if you need medication, you'll get it.

My hair has been falling out, since I got to Dubai. I believe it has something to do with the unfiltered water, that we shower in. I think it's the hair breaking off rather than falling out, due to the water being so harsh. I had a Pure Blue filter fitted and noticed an immediate improvement in the amount of hair falling and also my skin. Would definitely recommend.

I noticed the same thing last year and it was Hashimotos (your own antibodies destroying your thyroid) and actually in my case caused me to have an underactive thyroid. I am now on medication for that and haven't noticed much regrowth but definitely less hair falling out. I was also tested for Ferritin - which was at 0 - for hair to grow, your ferritin levels must be at least 70! I was advised to have 4 infusions which I did and now my ferritin is in the normal range. This is very recent, but I'm looking forward to some regrowth. I am also Vitamin D deficient and am now on meds for that. This ALL happened post baby so it could just be readjustment or aging - either way, all three things contributed to the hair loss and I'm relieved that I saw a doctor when I did. I saw Dr. Hubert - at America Hospital. He really took my concerns very seriously and I feel much better now. Good luck!

Sounds like it could possibly be overactive thyroid, or also vit D deficiancy, and stress will definately cause hair loss! When my baby was born and we found out she had multiple heart defects, she underwent open heart surg at 4days old, got a serious wound infection from the surgery, etc...etc...etc.... I was losing my hair in GOBS! Now that she is doing better and I am feeling less overwhelmed, my hair is growing back and the spots that were bald look funny cuz I have tufts of hair that stick up ;) I also started taking vit D. I am overweight so I def dont have an overactive thyroid! Kinda wish I did LOL!

Defo a medical problem and as jewelsmiddle mentioned, it could be an overactive thyroid. This is something I had for years. Get to the doctor asap for a blood test etc. You will feel much better knowing and getting treated.

Don't wait to see the doctor later this month ( what kind of Doctor ? ) if you can manage to go now , you really should ! This is not normal to lose this much weight and hair and who knows what else you may have or may not have noticed that has changed. Tell the Doctor all you issues, there can be many reasons for these issues and immune system as pointed out could be it, Thyroid over active ? many other reasons. Don't wait if at all possible as it will not just go away.

Definitely see a dr!!@!! I had to take Biotin (if I recall correctly) injections for 6 wks! Your dr can do some bloodwork and see where the problem is before you start messing with your health. Don't wait otherwise it'll be harder and take longer to stop the hair loss

Both weight loss and hair loss could be due to problems with the immune system. Think carefully about what you want to say to the doctor beforehand, so you don't leave out any important detail.

If your hair is falling out, it is a medical problem. If your cat was losing hair in patches, you would take her to the vet, right? Unfortunately, many doctors still think it's just cosmetic, but be insistant that they find the reason.

I am helpless; i feel I’m losing half of my hair daily! if this keeps up, i will be bold next month :( I have lost about 7 to 8 kilos in around 3 months, my eating habits changed due to a problem with my stomach, which i should be seeing a doctor for later this month. but i do take multi vitamins, and i try to eat as healthy as possible, but still, my hair is falling and not the normal situation. please advise where should i go? Should i see a doctor or take more vitamins (the specified ones for hair and nails? edited by lamaaz on 02/02/2011
