Hi guys, I was wondering if you can give me an advice. Mashreq bank has filed a case against my friend and she now need to pay the cheque as not to go to jail. The thing is that the bank is asking not only for the security cheque amount, but also for the all fees and fines accumulated.
What is the rule in UAE regarding this? Do you pay the cheque amount or you have to pay also the fees? From the police when she was arrested to retain her passport they told her that she ones the bank the amount on the cheque, but she needs to talk to the bank and they are not involved with this. I have tried to see if there is something on the net, but….. Maybe Mashreq bank is trying to cheat my fried for more money?
Please help, my friend is in trouble.

She really needs to go back to speak to someone nice in the bank. They may waive the charges but obviously not the security cheque. Thanks, but I have dealt with Mashreq before and there is no one nice there :( It took me more than a month to close current account :)

When your down here they just kick you harder. Very true, imagine… they arrested her with her toddler and dragged her to the police station just to take her passport as security that she will not leave the country!!!! Can they just ask for the passport and finished?! I have always heard stories, but never happened to a friend of mine. That's terrible, the jails are full of similar cases, can she afford to pay the cheque and charges back? If so so it asap, if not she needs some legal help. Well, the thing is that the cheque was for 3800, but the limit is 5700. The bank is asking for 10 000. 3800 is not a problem, 5700 can be managed, but 10k.... She is afraid that if she gives them the 10k they may ask for more. I've tried the central bank if this is legal, still waiting for reply :( I was wondering why you are giving security cheque if you are not paying the same amount? If is fishy I have to say, but then again the rules in UAE are..?!x@# As for the lawyer – they cost money too and she is money trouble…… Unless there is someone who can advice her for free just what to do… Thanks 
