Should security deposit deductions be made at source??
Ladies, just a query related to security cheque return....i have searched but not found anything on this particular scenario.
I left a flat recently having lived in it for 2 years. First year it was run by Betterhomes who did a great job, but due to a difficult AD based female landlord, difficult to get hold of and unreliable they handed back the property to her, upon which an African guy became boss to the resident "security" lad who considering his age and size of the building did a pretty good job).
This "company" who has no name, that seems to be run by this African guy, only has a mobile number but i have never had trouble getting hold of &%&$ (his first name) and he seems pretty reliable..
Now on leaving i have no dispute that it would have needed a lick of paint to freshen it up, on research 1500 seems to be about right, but my question relates to the following:
Why would the landlord give me my deposit back for the full amount for me to pay them back 1500 for the decorating.
the African guy just told me that the cheque would be for the full amount (when the landlord pulls her finger out), i of course said give me an invoice and i will give you the 1500 no problem.
is it normal for the landlord to NOT deduct the decorating costs and for you to pay it after...never had this in my Villa i got the whole deposit back! am i being overly suspicious?
