Hi,
My other half has been offered a job in Dubai.
We have 2 small boys (2 years and 6 months) but I'm obviously a little hesitant. Would anybody recommend it? Good family life? Standard of living? Good British school?
Just looking for any British mums to share experiences really!
Any thoughts appreciated!!

Excellent ladies, thank you so much for the replies and thanks for the thread link. We used to live in Bahrain, does anyone knows how it compares? edited by shiny on 16/02/2011

feel let down by the lack of beaches and just being able to walk places.! Depends where you live - i live in Jumeriah and can walk to both a public beach and the ladies club, i can also pretty much walk to most things i need.... Supermarket, laundry, restaurants, sheisha cafes, baby malls, bookstores.

It certainly takes time to adjust and you go through that homesick period after 3-4 months but you settle down. Ive been here nearly 8 months and only just finding my feet. The biggest shock was the supermarkets (i miss my Sainsburys) and the lack of humour (i miss the British sense of humour!). I however love the weather and the shops but feel let down by the lack of beaches and just being able to walk places. Overall a great experience though and the kids love it so much, my three year old DS cries if i even mention going on holiday!

It's like anything really it's what you make it. We love it here. Our kids have a great time. They love school and are learning well. We live in a lovely villa, have 2 cars, travel around from Dubai on nice holidays etc etc but......it's very expensive to live here. Do a search as buy me a pony has recently done an analysis on what sort of package you need to make it worth your while moving here and it makes very interesting reading. I know people who do not enjoy it here and those who are struggling but as long as you come with your adventure head on and you have a good package - you should be fine.
