I have just foud out that there are 17 cats and 1 dog living in (what was) a construction site up here in Layan community. There used to be equipment etc in this area, but that has recently been cleared away, all that now remains is these poor animals.

Obviously the workers were feeding them while they were there, but now they have been left to fend for themselves. With the following in mind, what would you do?

1. There are a few young cats that will come up to you, but none of them are overly friendly. The adults are comepletly scared of people and I dont think anything will change that.
2. They probably havent been spayed and so very soon we could have twice as many cats there.
3. They are right next to the main road where people tend to go very fast. Also I have seen a few dead cats on that road, im assuming they are from this area.
4. The dog is so scared of people that he runs off as soon as he see's someone.

I know sometime you have to be cruel to be kind, but is is really feasible to get them sterilised and put them back or would that be a waste of time.

I cant stop thinking about this and I need to do something soon, before they all start wandering in the road in search of food.

Thanks for the advice....I went to feed them last night and I didnt see a single one...I hope they havent all gone walkabout. I didnt want to get FF or K9 involved as they have enough on thier plate, but maybe they will be able to autorize thier rates at the vets if needed. I will speak to the lady who told me about them and see if we can get a team of volunteers together to trap them.

Sabrina, in case FF can't help, ABVC is spaying/neutering strays for free during March. Mostly they advise to feed the stray cats just twice a week, random times, they should keep the ability to search their own food. Is there anyone else willing to help there?

Sabrina, please give FF a ring 0504510058 and leave a detailed message about the cats. FF has trained volunteers who do *catch and release* and should be able to help you. You can also call K9 friends for the dog.

Poor cats:( Here's my idea ....perhaps a team of volunteers can be found to catch the cats, assess for temperament & suitability for taming/homing, and the ones that are too wild to be homed can be moved to a safer location, such as a farm or small-holding.
