Hi,

I live in a standard villa but of course can't get wireless upstairs (all that cement). I've looked at wireless boosters which of course claim to work but before I spend several hundred dhs I would like to hear from someone who has had success.

TIA

A solution I prefer, is to get 2 powerline adapters 1 downstairs with the original router the second upstairs, the put a cheap router connected to the adapter upstairs. If you are wanting to stream movies around the house, the adapters need to be fast which generally means a little more expensive. but I have found this system to be a safer bet than investing in a booster ( personal preference) The beauty of this system is if you also need wired access upstair, you can just add another adapter to the system. I have used this system in old victorian houses over 4 stories as well as large concrete apartments which seem to just absorb wireless ! http://amzn.to/i0BxIf This is a link to an example of the products I buy. There are other companies that make them, and the term to search for is "Ethernet over Power". ( the belkin website gives diagrams and explanations of how they can be used and their benefits) these are available locally. Depending on what your going to use the connection for, depends on how much you need to spend. Then you need to get a wireless router for upstairs. HTH edited by Sage & Onion on 25/03/2011

we have a wired connector, so second box really that connects into the first one with the wire dropped over a balcony and then wrapped around a couple of wall lights that then drops like a treat into the hall. No idea what it is called, router comes to mind but then maybe not. have an upstairs connection and password and a downstairs one. Got one of those kids from the office to set it all up. surprised I can fasten my own shoelaces by myself these days. We had a wireless thingy but didn't work at all. Hope this helps :) We have one that just plugs into an electric socket downstairs and some how gets linked to the one upstairs (as you can see I am very technically minded) :) edited by wiggywig on 25/03/2011

Yes they do. My wireless connection is upstairs and it was very hit and miss whether I got connection downstairs. My husband put in a booster downstairs and now I have perfect signal everywhere including my garden.
