hello mummies and ladies, plz i need to ask about important thing, i just came to abu dhabi on 3/9 and am pregnant in 30 weeks now, i asked me and my husband about hospitals because we are new , his company recommended al noor hospital and because of insurance we went there, the branch in khalifa street because am staying beside al wahda mall and this is the nearest branch to me....we went there and the receptionist gave us appointment with a doctor called wafaa ahmad ali, actually i was feeling ok the first visit and when i started searching internet i found no reviews about her at all!!!! i got scared actually because it's known that we women prefer doctors which people say reviews about, the problem is that all other doctors are busy i think, may be that's why they made me enter for that doctor...now am confused what should i do?????????????? am really scared....can i ask to enter for another doctor next appointment??? she give me appointment once per month....and about hospital, will they allow my husband to be there? who will be on my delivery day? this dr wafaa or may be other doctors??? about newborn safety , do this hospital give good care for newborn? they encourage breast feeding? do they have a system to prevent babies mixing because me and husband are really scared our kid may be mixed or exchanged in newborn units...plz need reviews from people as soon as possible ....Thank You[/b][/b][/b][/u][/i][/i]

u r right 100% ... do u know how much is the maternity package in al corniche??? because money is not everything but also we cannot beat the ground to get money, sometimes ur budget cannot cover so what we can do??????? :S i meant by mixing is to have ur child exchanged with other people child ok ok. i didnt know what you meant about mixing it wasnt very clear. they are tagged havent heard of any child being lost etc. the same would be for all the hospitals in abu dhabi, dont think anyone is better or worse. and yes i remember the days whenthe corniche wasnt that expensive, but then again have you actually asked about which hospitals are covered and how much, if you are not talking a lot of money then corniche is still a better deal. also some hospitals is direct billing some not, so that would be an issue i take it as well. in the corniche they dont take your baby away from you. i had my first baby in the uk, and my baby was taken away from me, i had to have a csection for a serious medical complication and then he was found to have serious medical issues, i was stuck on my own in one hospital and he was taken and transferred to another like 10 miles up the road, i didnt see him..... so yes it does happen but if there is no reason for it then i wouldnt worry, i had my second here in corniche a long time ago and it wasnt their policy to take baby away etc like in american dramas on the tv.

they only take daman, but with the other companies you pay, fill the form and then get reimbursed, you have to call the insurance company to get the details. My baby was never away from me, they wash him in front of you, I was very tired and he was crying a lot and nobody took him ever, maybe it is different if the baby has problems otherwise they never take him. Breastfeeding can be tough, so you never know if you will be successful or not.

corniche accept only daman insurance :( all people said so, my insurance is axa......thank u for ur reply, about keeping the baby with me all the time, is that possible???? i heard they take him or her for showering and other things... specially if he needs some care once born or something, or when the mother is tired or something.....i want to understand also what's lactation support? i mean i cannot manage myself and feed my baby alone??????

Check with your insurance company regarding government hospitals coverage. At first, I thought my insurance did not cover, but they did. However, I had to pay and then got reimbursed. I would try to deliver at corniche over any other hospital, if there is a complication with the baby at any other hospital they will send you to corniche but you can be on stand-by if they have no space as they give priority to women that give birth there. At corniche hospital, the possibilities of a baby switch are very low. From the moment the baby is born, even thru cesarean the baby is giving to you and you are never apart. They give tags to both mum and baby and if they are apart more than some distance the alarm rings, also if the baby leaves some area the alarm rings. I dont think they can ever been switched or stolen. Another advantage of corniche is that they have a free lactation clinic for women that deliver there, although I prefer la Leche League, the ladies even come to your home to help and seem more knowledgeable. best of luck!

Lozaleno, you'd be best going to the Corniche and asking about the insurance coverage and costs with them directly as the information changes all the time and you will get the correct information only through speaking to them. With regards baby switching, I have never heard of this happening here, however, as a first time mum, its your right to worry about everything!! and this is something i did also consider, so after I had my baby last year i made sure she was with me at all times and if she had to leave for any checks or anything my husband went with her when i wasnt able to, she didnt leave our sight. Also, they are tagged once they are born, so even if someone did make a mistake, the baby will have their name on their ankle strap. i think most hospitals now encourage rooming in, eg baby stays in your room with you so you shouldnt have anything to worry about. (I delivered in Al Rahba hospital, also government, but on the outskirts past Shahama on road to Dubai so maybe not ideal for your location) With regards breastfeeding, the only hospitals who actively encourage and provide advice are the Corniche and Al Rahba, i know from friends' experience that Al Noor do not offer any lactation support, however you can always contact La Leche League UAE in Abu Dhabi for any help or advice with regards to this and the ladies there will be happy to help you out. Good luck! its such an exciting time and so much to look forward to, try not to stress too much about the birth and hospital, thats only a day or so, it's the next 18 years youve got to worry about! ;)

thank u busybee, do u have any info about babies safety from mixing or exchanging at hospitals??? private hospitals? or is it safe??????????? what do you mean mixing? will all the medical practices here in the uae you have to go with what you like. each person will have a different idea. i would only use the corniche thats because its got the scuba. i had my youngest way back 14 years ago now in corniche but as had medical issues beforehand i was with the docs, now back then it was terrible downstairs in the antenatal etc, terrible in the way that you are hurded back and forth, terrible as in cattle market, but the care was absolutely fine, just the same anywhere, the red tape and the lack of queing etc is just part and parcel of life here... they have now improved it from what i have heard as its quite a common thing here to have babies and the conriche is certainly very used to it. so i would only go there, its not down to the money its really down to the care that you receive. you can go and have a tour and see what they do. back in my day you didnt get epidurals 24 hours, they were only done for a short period during the day, if you missed those times you didnt get..... you just have to be prepared. the midwives in corniche are usually all western, scottish, english, new zealand, oz etc. whereby in private hospitals they tend to go for other nationalities. thats not to say that they are any better or worse etc, but i have had many problems at some places here for different things and so i have learnt by experience here for many years if there is a ent problem i go to one place, if its teeth then here etc etc. but thats my opinion, obviously you need to go and look at each place and then you will get the feel for it or not. at the end of the day, its not all about money its about the care you receive.

i know that just i have now the temporary visa and sure will make the residence visa this month, just am new here in abu dhabi.....so the governmental health card doesn't cover fees at al corniche.???? my husband's company covers 100% at private hospitals we only pay 50 dirham each visit and tey do all ultrasounds, consultation, lab tests and medicines all free only 50 dirham yes thats right it can be like 30 or 50 dhs then the rest you dont pay, look at where company scheme covers. if you can go to swedish medical clinic then use dr tank she is the best in abu dhabi, she can only do csections privately so you would need to go to a private hospital anyway. you dont get a government health card any more many years ago you could but now you have in abu dhabi private medical such as daman which is the usual one, but then the likes of emirates insurance or adnic etc, its different from dxb

i opened a file already with that doctor at the hospital, should i open another file for delivery????? also u r right but right now we had financial problem so i should go under insurance covering :S anyway thanks for ur help....some ppl also had bad experiences at al corniche so i think it depend on ur luck and it differ from one woman to another and from one situation to another yes people will have bad experience but usually its downstairs in antenatal with corniche once upstairs in hospital its fine, the midwives etc are usually western. they have improved 200% corniche than many years ago. the only thing with other hospitals is that if there is any problem you will be rushed to corniche and if there is probs with traffic etc, and also if there is room, if you are already in the same hospital they will have to sort it out. if you have normal pregnancy then you can go with midwives at corniche and its so much better and easier than with the doctor care, but in some cases some people do not have that option. if your insurance covers dr tank i would go there for before and then if it has to be private hospital al noor for the birth.

also on doing the residence visa they sometimes offer a health card which offer insurance in governmental hospitals, when i was in dubai i had one ? anybody had this? as am going to do my residence visa this month if you are on abu dhabi visa then company must provide your family up to 3 children with health card, that doesnt mean that the health card is good, and that it covers for where you need to use it etc. but by law they have to give you basic cover, some companies are good some not so. usually a insurance policy allows you cover at their approved centers and you pay a little fee and then the rest is billed to company etc, or if you go outside their approved centers you may loose 20% plus the fee etc. all company schemes will be different for different company

dear busybee, thank u...but unfortunately i cannot go to corniche because my husband's insurance is not covering there!! and we cover only in private hospitals :( our budget cannot cover there :( do we need to register a file for delivery at private hospitals too? u heard anything about al noor ..positive please :D right then use al noor hospital but i would still personally go with the best place rather than the money. my insurance doesnt cover me for dr tank but she is the best gyno in town so i will always go there. if i was needed a maternity i would go to corniche. whenever you go to a private clinic/hospital you need to open up a file.

the best place is to go to corniche hospital, its the government maternity hospital and its a baby factory lol. they have the best equipment in any sort of emergency all other hospitals will send baby to their scbu etc. you need to go and open a file with corniche so paperwork and its sometimes take a long time to do the antenatal but the hospital section is first class. most people will use dr tank at the swedish medical center up by acs school and then use corniche for the birth etc.
