Hi Shadowmist2
Just wanna touc base regarding your Canadian school Mirdif experience. Its been some time now, whats your feedback and recommendations? How are the teachers and their qualification? Are you satisfied.
Please let me know.
regards.
The boys love it, which is the main thing, and the school has fixed there fees for 3 years because they are new, which also helps....
I picked them because I was able to put my eldest a year back, and the Canadian system is not all academic, with him being ADHD he was not coping in the UK, and unfortunately the UK system pushes the kids through even if they are not able to keep up, and then they wonder why they have so many illiterate adults.
No, I am British,The fees are High, but in no means the highest, and it annoys me that Schools can charge so much, I looked around and compared the prices
Yes, it repeatedly stated "Canadian" without specifics. I believe it only opened this school year. However, the family interested has a child in an upper grade, which is not yet being offered, plus unfortunately it is out of their price range, so hopefully they will be able to find something else. I'd have a hard time stomaching those fees myself without either being Canadian or coming from/returning to a Canadian curriculum, and I'd be curious as to what else they offer in terms of academics or activities. I've been past it many times, it's a very small place, so maybe that makes a difference.
marycatherine,
My boys started in January this year, the Head Teacher is always contactable, and their SEN teacher works wonders in my opinion, also the Grade 6 and Grade 2 teachers whom I deal with are always available to touch base with.
I do agree that there website could offer more, and with any new School there are difficulties, so hopefully onward and upward for them, they adding a year each year to go up to year 12 if I can remember correctly.
There is a notice board with all the teachers on it, as my son was one of the kids that put it together.
Looking at their website there are no pictures of the management or faculty. They have no official accreditation in place, which probably is OK as they are new. However, it doesn't specify which Canadian curriculum is in place (each province has their own standards, but any Canadian International school I've ever seen specifies which provincial standards they adhere to.) There is no mention of the teachers' credentials (again, each province has their own criteria for certifying teachers as being qualified to teach the curriculum - it's generally not hard for a qualified teacher to move from province to province but it is required to be certified for the particular curriculum).
I would be asking the senior management these questions. I'm sure they have answers, they just haven't included them on the website.
Shadowmist - when did your older son start with the school - this year?
Both my boys are in the OICS, one in grade 6 and the other grade 2,and they love it, Teachers are great, good community spirit in the school and very friendly.
