So I sent a parcel, by courier to UK, for DD birthday. Just clothes and little bits. Filled out value and contents. Value 2000 DHS.
Just been informed that before parcel can be delivered either she or us have to pay 160 EUROS custom charges. I mean come on! Does that sound right? That's nearly what the whole package is worth. Plus our courier charges on top. If this is correct I'll never send anything ever again.

Hi seasand I know how you feel. This is something different. Almost a year ago, I bought a pair of Gianvito Rossi sandals online from UK but the Size 4 was slightly on the large side. For a refund, I had to send the sandals back to its headquarters – Bologna, and not to London. The problem was DHL here could not get hold of the company in Bologna port, as the company gave the incorrect telephone number. I suspect that they were trying not to refund me. The parcel was left at Customs for a month. Don’t know why that DHL could not call the warehouse. The courier to Bologna cost me over £100. Although it was expensive, I was able to get a good part of my money back. I highly recommend DHL who kept me informed of the whereabouts of the missing parcel on a regular basis.

Not really the same but wanted to relate this incident as I have been through something similar and thought you may feel better about yourself. Ordered books from amazon that were not available here and sent them to my shop n ship usa address. All well so far as I was charged minimal fees. Felt quite pleased with myself and was looking forward to gifting a new book to DD. Got a shock when SnS started shipping books - one by one - to my home and charged me the minimum required for EACH shipment. I began to dread tearing open the parcel to find just one book with the sinking feeling the rest of the purchases were still to come! never again.

I feel your pain, we merrily sent off a photo frame to mother in law for her birthday with a few pictures in, not expensive, possibly 150dhs......it was being delivered to Spain - she was charged 109 Euros on delivery!!! We had no idea, were never informed and obviously didn't expect it....puts new meaning into 'its the thought that counts'!!!

So I have been onto customs and courier in UK. Firstly it's not 160 sterling its nearly 170. I was going to get DD to reject the package and then it would be returned to me. If it is rejected then you don't have to pay the 170 charges. Just pay for the return courier. It now appears that the UK courier company are saying they have paid the charges already and that they have it on hold until payment is made to them. What really does annoy me is that they are now saying that to have it returned would cost us the courier fee and the 170 pounds charges. I would like to know who gives them permission to pay these charges, if they have seriously done so, as I never once got a notification of any charges, only my DD telling me via message this morning. I'm still waiting the outcome. What a nightmare. So I would like to advise all 'gift' senders not to use couriers, but to order from the UK if delivering in the UK. Please learn by my depressing day.

Shipping costs + customs handling fee + customs clearance fee + taxes(duty) + possible insurance cost the shipping company paid + entry fee ALL of these can be charged to you depending what category goods you are sending, the country of origin and destination and the trade agreement (free or not) between the two. Hope this helps, it's so confusing.

Sadly it is very possible, I ordered stuff from the US to Europe and was so silly not to have checked with customs, the charges were as much as the stuff I ordered. It was ridiculous. Lesson learnt: [b'>always check[/b'> :loser:
