Good afternoon ladies, we have been in Dubai for 2 years now an it's looking like a move to AD is on the cards.
Can you please tell me where the main expat residential areas are and what the rents for a 3 or 4 bedroom will be?
I have an 18 month old who currety attends a fab nursery, are there nice, close nurseries around or are they all full with waiting lists?
Is the schooling the same as Dubai? By that I mean would I have to put DDs name on waiting lists ASAP to stand a chance of getting a place? Would be looking at UK curriculum.
Part time jobs? Are they as non existent there as they are here?
For those of you who have lived in Dubai: how does AD compare as a way of life?

Sorry for all the questions it's just I've not been happy in Dubai and would hate to move to be just as unhappy. Thanks

There are a few residential areas and it's usually classed as 'on-island' and 'off-island'. On island is generally more expensive if you want a villa. If you are happy in an apartment there are lots of new ones in great locations, look at Al Reem island for example. If you want a 3 or 4 bed villa on island I think you are looking at over 200K. Off island you can rent a 4 bed villa in Al Reef for about 140K I think. BUT you will have a drive to reach anywhere. We are in Al Raha Gardens and pay 165K for a 4 bed townhouse. We have an end plot with a good size garden and are happy here. 3 bed are about 150K I think. Also look at Khalifa City A for large villas, many are in small compounds of about 10 villas. There are lots of great nurseries. In Khalifa City (which is off island) there are lots to choose from, British and US based. We were told about long wait lists, but in fact everyone I know finds a place - might not be your first choice, but still. New ones seem to open every month or so. Usual story with schools, but apply a year in advance and think you'll get a place. Quite a few to choose from. Don't know about jobs really, but think also v limited for part time. Many people here love living in AD. It's much smaller than Dubai so if you join AD Mums etc you soon start seeing the same people around. Also lots of local playgroups that you pay Dhs15 for - lots of cheap things to do. I personally preferred living in Dubai, but am happy here. It's takes me exactly 55 minutes to Ibn Battua so am not far away. Parks are much nicer in Dubai and I miss those. But plenty to do here other than Malls. Might be worth having a look at The Club if you like pool and beach and organised activities for little ones. Hope that helps!
