I am working for a company that has said if I get married I will lose all the benefits of my package, i.e. accomodation, health care, flights, etc, and I will recieve only my salary. All married women there are currently just local hires, on their husbands' visas. If my husband to be was able to sponser me that would be fine, but he is not able to do this and his work would not provide me with all the benefits I would lose. I have a couple friends who are also in the same situation, and some who have left to go to another place of work due this. (Just to add, if a man working there gets married, he continues to receive everything as normal.)
Anyway, my question is, is this correct? I was told by someone it is not - that the person with the highest salary/benefits package has to continue to receive it. I have searched alll over for information on this matter, but have yet to find anything. So if anyone knows the answer or could point me in the direction of someone who does, then it would be much appreciated.

I don't know the requirements in Abu Dhabi as I live/work in Qatar. But generally here both partners in a marriage will not receive benefits. At my work, I was required to provide documentation that my husband is not receiving these benefits (housing, education, flight allowance) in order for me to receive them. Would it be worth sitting down with the head of HR at your work and explaining that your husband (to be) does not receive these and asking if you could document this with a letter from his employer in order for you to continue to receive them (and to remain sponsored by your employer)?

why cant your husband sponsor you? not heard of the one that earns the most has to keep the benefits, there are different rules for government/private you cannot double dipp the benefits you will loose one. He is on too low a salary, and receives very few benefits anyway, e.g. no flights, etc. I basically just want to keep what I have now. I'm not looking for anything extra. edited by catuk5 on 03/07/2012
