Hi my names Emma
I've just recently moved to abu dhabi and I'm struggling to meet people. I moved out here two weeks ago, like alot of women I moved here because my partner got a job out here four months ago. Im not working at the moment as I'm looking for a Job so I have a lot of free time which at the moment I'm spending on my own. I'm 24 and would love to meet up with women in a simular situation to me. I've seen there's alot of coffee mornings going on in Dubai but I'm eager to meet people locally in abu dhabi so I can make some friends.
I would really appreciate any advice or if anyone knows of anyways I can meet people I'd love to hear about it.
Emma

Hi ....I just moved to AD about 2 months ago and expecting my second baby and have a 18 month child. I have'nt really made any friends here and would love to meet some people and have conversations with rather then just have my 18 month old girl to talk to. I have my own home business here but have a lot of free time and dont really know what to do with time apart from going to malls. I would love to have more information on British Club and other baby and mother clubs. Hi Amira.C, Ive just moved to AUH recently too! I know how you feel about wanting to talk to someone other than your child!! I have a 3 year old son who s in full time nursery. I work full time too but usually finish work around 230pm so am usually free after that if you want to meet up?

MarbellaGirl, I really like the Club because it seems to be a good mix. Even though there are kids running around the place, it isn't over run and its nice because it means its a bit lively and has a nice atmosphere. I know quite a few single girls who are members and a few families too. I never feel uncomfortable when I am there. I am heading there on Friday morning after the gym around 10:30 if you can't make during the week. x

Hi. I'm not there yet but we're moving over in the next 1-2months. Trying to secure work whilst still in the UK but failing that we'll actively look for work whilst in AD. Will be initially in Madinat Zayed area with family but discussing moving to a bigger house once we have all secured work. Will still be in AD though =) I have 2 young children but will be working a 5day week. However up for some women only nights, girly cinema trips or meeting up with kids at week ends etc. Will just need to work around spending time with the family as well. (We woman seriously have to multi-task don't we!) I'm British born and raised so some western mates would be great, married into an Asain family though so know a bit about that also.

Hi Bella UK, I am pretty new to AD, (5 weeks!), although have lived in Dubai before. I am working here, and know I will make plenty of friends through work, as its a big company, but I dont want my social life to revolve around work. I too was curious about the British Club, but just wary that it's all families - not that I have anything against that, I have plenty of friends with kids, but as a single person without kids, I don't want to spend money joining a Club where I am really in the minority! Would be great to meet up with you there one afternoon, although I am on a training course for another 2 weeks, so not free until after 430pm? Anyway would appreciate your thoughts on the family orientated question? Cheers Michele

Beela uk That sounds great I'd love a day pass to come and sit by the pool with you. I've heard alot about the British club and would like to see what it's like. I'm popping back to the uk for a couple of weeks just to tie up some loose ends but i'd love to come along before go if that would be ok. Emma x

I am a member of the British Club/The Club, it is lovely and relaxed and really good value compared to other 'beach clubs' here and the food and drink is cheap too. Now is a good time to get membership if you want to join, another newbie girl I know just managed to get her membership within 2 weeks. There are quite a few of us who go out for ladies nights now, and new people join us all the time so don't feel weird about coming and everyone else knowing each other. We didn't manage to get together for a ladies night before Ramadan started, but I think they are still on there is just no music playing. Otherwise we will definitely be having a big one to make up for it after Ramadan. Anyone who wants to join feel free, I will post when we arrange something. I have been in AD a year and have made some good friends now but it take sa bit of time and people come and go so quickly so you always have to be on the ball about meeting people and making friends, just get yourself out to everything :) P.S I will be spending my Ramadan afternoons off work by the pool at the Club so if anyone does want to join, I can sign you in and you can just get a day pass thing Food and drinks are still available by the pool :) edited by BellaUK on 01/08/2011

Hi, I moved here 5 months ago with our almost 2 year old son. I'm working full time and live out near the airport in Al Reef, but I would be still interested in getting to know people, especially with young kids in my son's age group. It just makes meeting up more difficult.

Have been in Abu Dhabi now for 7 years, and still find it difficult to meet friends. We have a group of friends (all South Africans), but will be nice to meet more people. I have a 16 month boy, so playmates would be great too. Hi Emma glad you had a good time - they are lovely ladies :) re The Club (British) you need to be a member or be signed in by a member to enter. It's a lovely club - you can have a tour by phoning The Club and asking about membership.

Brit expat 78 thank you the British club is the next place on my list of places to go. It's really tricky to meet people especially at this time of year.

Hi Kim I went to my first coffee morning today and I was really nervous which i soon realised was silly. The ladies at the coffee mornings are lovely and there's a wide range of ages. it was great just to be able to talk to other women and find out a few things I was struggling with. Some people have been here months others years and I found it really helpful. Leave your email on here and I'll let you know about the next one. and we can sort out meeting up for a coffee or something. More them happy to help. Emma
