My husband myself and two kids (2 & 10 yrs) will be relocating to Abu Dhabi in February. My eldest child has been offered a place at The Pearl Primary School and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if this is a good school and what areas we should be looking at to live. We would like a pool and someplace where kids can play freely.

Any help would greatly appreciated.

I have lived in both Khalifa A and B and to be quite frank, the driving in the mornings for the school run/rush is extremely hazardous. If you are able to find a compound close to school that will relieve you of alot of stress. Khalifa B, though quiet, has no shops or other conveniences like Khalifa A has. It is a minimum of 15 kilometres from the main road in Khalifa City b to the main road in Khalifa City A where the strip of flats/grocery/drycleaners (locally refered to as 'Pink Shops' are) I calculated this when looking for schools for my kids in Khalifa A. For me living in A has far more advantages than living in B. Hope you manage to find a lovely home soon & good luck with the move:) P.S I can recommend a great property agent if you need one. edited by Nedi on 23/01/2013 edited by Nedi on 23/01/2013 i disagree, its takes 5 mins or so to drive across the roundabouts, from kca to kcb. take it from me from someone that has lived in both, and i was in kca long long before it became popular like 10 years ago, when people did not live off island as they felt it was like driving to dubai. lived in kca before they had anything other than the fire station and the adnoc and that was it... a mosque shop and nothing more, now kcb doesnt have shops but they are not far away, the new baniyas mall is 5 mins drive away and you will have everything you need, yes kca does have a few shops now but to be honest you have loads of problems with traffic, there are so many schools now and everyone commuting from on island to the schools in kca because they cannot get into schools on island and the traffic jam is a nitemare. kcb is quiet and so i much prefer it, also kcb has street lights, pavements and drains, which actually is quite important when it rains...... many floods in kca. so you have to have a car to live really in both kcb and kca so if you have to drive 5 mins to shops then so bet it, even if you lived in kca you need a car and you can even still have to drive 5 mins to a shop in kca.

Thank you busy bee, my son is very athletic so al yasmina may be the best option, if we were to go for a place there where would you suggest staying, like I said a villa with 3 or more bedrooms in a compound/family area with good facilities would be too of our list. We've also heard about another school al Muna - another of alder academies schools would you still suggest al yasmina over this too? I really appreciate your help. muna is a primary school so same as pearl. there is also mushrif primary school run by aldar and also bateen which is secondary school only. they are all run by aldar. stick with yasmina.

depending on when in february you may get offered places as once you reach 15th feb kids already enrolled in uae schools cannot shift schools until september. so from overseas and a place becomes available as people do leave at anytime, you will jump the queue if there is one of course.

then you should go for yasmina, for one it goes from 3-18 so no changing school, pearl is a primary school so you would have your children at 2 different schools, which may not be within communting distance etc. yasmina has better sports facilities as its a purpose built school out in kca unlike pearl where it was an arabic school remodelled and is restricted as in town. also depending on where live yasmina is in kca and so you can get a villa and more room rather than an apartment nearer to pearl, but it all depends on your budget. if you get 1 child in a school a sibling will be higher up the waiting lists etc.

Small update just today we have potentially been offered a place at Al Yasmina school, are there any preferences as to which school is best. My son is very sporty so great facilities are also important to us as well as academic excellence.
