The new rules are effective from Sunday September 19, 2021.

After more than a year, Abu Dhabi authorities will finally cancel Covid-19 PCR testing requirements to enter the emirate for travellers in the UAE starting on Sunday, reported state news agency WAM.

Previously, anyone travelling into the UAE's capital from other emirates were required to present a negative PCR test result or take a DPI test. Those who failed to bring a test result would be turned away from the borders unless they had valid and verified exceptions.

Officials said the decision was made after the recent drop in Covid-19 cases in Abu Dhabi and the activation of the green pass system to enter some public areas. As of last week, around 0.2% of people tested were found to have the virus.

"The Committee will continue to monitor events and urges all citizens, residents and visitors to continue adhering to precautionary measures to protect public health and safety, maintain successes, and advance the nation’s sustainable recovery," Abu Dhabi officials said in a statement.
