The Al Hosn app is the best way for UAE residents to prove their vaccination/health status when moving about.
As of May 2021, UAE residents will need to prove they have had both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination to be granted access into certain venues and attend public events.
While a vaccination card or copy of a test result might be enough proof in some venues, we recommend installing the Al Hosn app as it is FREE, easy and quick to download, and is available for any Apple for Android device.
Here's a quick guide on how to download and use the UAE's Al Hosn app for your everyday protection and if you plan on travelling out of the country any time soon.
What is the Al Hosn app?
The Al Hosn app was originally released in 2020 as a way to help the UAE public keep track of Covid-19 cases.
Since then, the app has evolved into a personal record-keeping app for a user's coronavirus test resuts, Covid-19 vaccine history, and to alert you if there's a confirmed infected case nearby, tracking interactions between people who have it installed on their devices.

How to use the Al Hosn app for Covid-19 tests
When you take a Covid-19 test in the UAE, you will receive your test results directly on your phone through the Al Hosn app, linked through your Emirates ID.
Each result and status will be colour-coded as follows:
- Grey: You have not been tested for Covid yet.
- Green: You have been tested for the virus and it came out negative, thus you are healthy. The green status will grant you access to certain venues and events.
- Red: Your most recent Covid test came out positive and you are infected. You are urged to seek health advice from a health care authority.
- Amber: You need to be tested or retested due to possible exposure to a confirmed Covid case or infection.

"I got an amber alert on the app. How does that work?"
The Al Hosn app uses the contact tracing method, identifying people that have been in close proximity to others who are positive for Covid-19, and then alerting the user so they can be tested soon.
The app can trace others who come in close proximity to you through Bluetooth technology, provided that they also have their app activated.
Why do I need to use the UAE Al Hosn app?
Since the official app can contain your detailed vaccination records, along with Covid-19 test results, you can use Al Hosn to grant you access to certain locations and events, as well as for other instances.
For travelling abroad
When travelling out of the UAE, vaccinated residents can use the Al Hosn app as a "passport" to make the trip a smoother process.
Depending on the airline carrier and the destination, you may be required to present a negative Covid test result and proof of vaccinated status.

For moving within the UAE
To enter Abu Dhabi, you will need to provide a negative coronavirus test result, which will appear on the app.
As events reopen across the country, entry will only be permitted if all staff and event-goers are vaccinated, thus you will need to present proof of your vaccination status on Al Hosn.
