Downtown Dubai

For all the residents in the UAE who are making their way to Downtown Dubai today

Whether it is to watch the grand fireworks at the Burj Khalifa, if you reside somewhere in the area, or you’ve got NYE plans with your friends and family there…you might want to plan your route ahead.

Every year, for safety concerns and as a precaution, RTA and the Dubai Police close down some roads near the area to avoid overcrowding and health issues in the area.

As Downtown Dubai attracts thousands of spectators on this New Year’s Eve, there will be several road closures and dedicated parking spots to celebrate the special day in Dubai.

RTA shared a very detailed instructional video on YouTube yesterday dictating the right and wrong ways to go about making your way to Downtown Dubai for NYE.

While some roads will begin their closures at around 4pm, others will close by 10pm.

Here are the roads leading up to the Burj Khalifa that will be closed for NYE today:

  • Al Asayel Street – closed from 4pm
  • Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard – closed from 5pm
  • Happiness Street – closed from 6pm
  • The Zabeel intersection of Happiness Street – closed from 8pm
  • The Emirates Towers round – closed from 10pm
  • Financial Centre Road (both upper and lower levels) – closed from 8pm

Car parking in Downtown Dubai

If you’re not taking public transportation and opting to drive there instead, you will not be able to park your car in the area.

There will be selective spots around the Downtown area with 3,000 parking spaces – you will need to take shuttle buses or the Dubai Metro to make your way near the Burj Khalifa.

Here are the dedicated parking locations:

  • Al Wasl Club – 1,000 spaces
  • GDRFA area – 500 spaces
  • Mankhool Mosque parking area – 1,500 spaces

Shuttle buses

It is advised that you park your car in the dedicated parking zones and use one of the 170 available shuttle buses to and from the area.
