My maid has never asked for an advance, but i have paid for things of emergency nature and I have offered when she had a death in the family but she decided not to go. If it is a disaster then I will pay, not loan.
Ladies do u give advance on wages if asked ? Already paid her a week ago and said she wants an advance on next months wages or do u think it's a slippery slope as once u do it they will start asking for more ?
Would your boss give you an advance ?
Yes some companies do this, usually in times of relocation, but it's not unheard of....
In 11 years I have been asked for an advance (I pay monthly) 3 x. One for a natural disaster, one for a death, one for a family emergency. I can afford it, I trust her (a big factor), and there but for the grace of God go I. I am blessed with friends and family I can call on in an emergency, some are not or maybe not for the $$ they need at short notice. I am also a big believer in Karma. "Even" if it's my maid. Maybe I will be taken advantage by her. But I truly believe my good will will be returned by someone someday even if the person I extended my goodwill (and money) to does not.
It's interesting - lack of return of favours or failure to come through bothers me almost not at all (if I think of it at all) while people I know are eaten almost alive by it. My life is too short IMHO
eta - my employer will give an advance in similar situations to those described above - in fact, since I started full time work in 1984 - every employer I've had had done this.

Has she been working for you for long? Is this out of character. Has she told you why she needs the money. I have given a couple of advances but always have good reasons. If she's only been paid last week seems a bit eary to have an advance I think you need to have a chat with her.....
If she's relatively new and has started early on asking then I would re-set the rules and clarify exactly when pay day is.
Mine asked for advance a couple of times over the years but she always tell me the reasons. I recorded the advance given and asked her to sign it. Depending on the amount, I either deducted from the next salary or over a few months. Honestly, I think it's really depend on whether you trust her enough to do it.
