Hi everyone,

My 2 yr old son has been diagnosed with a birth defect called hypospadias, and I need to get a good pediatric surgeon specialized in urology to provide me with a second opinion, and also to potentially do the surgery.
I have been made aware that this is actually a very frequent birth defect in boys. I was wondering if any of you ladies faced the same issues, heard it from a friend, etc... and could share some experience. Which doctor, which hospital, what to do before/after the surgery to make my poor monkey feel better, etc...
Many Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Dom

He is currently having hypospadias related issues again and we cannot find an insurance company that would cover his congenital issue. I was hoping you could advice on ant insurance companies that would cover hypospadias?

Many thanks for your reply and kind words Ice Maiden. We have met with 2 specialist and even consulted in Jordan (hence my tardy reply), just to have another opinion really. We should be going forward with the surgery towards the end of May, we are checking room availability with the hospital. The doctor did say there might be more than one operations, we won't know until well after. May I abuse your kindness and ask you about the best ways to make him feel comfortable after the surgery, the poor monkey is not going to know why he's going to go through all this and we plan to try to make him as comfortable as possible, and as busy as possible, but still I dread it. How is your son doing now?

Our 16 year old was diagnosed at birth (we were in UK). Without going into too much detail, he has had lots of operations but believe his was a complicated case. So most of his treatment was in the UK but I have to keep an eye on any problems. We see Dr Hubert Penninck at American Hospital. I've also noticed (in 7 days) an advert for Emirates Hospital for Dr Mohamad Kaskas who has an interest in hypospadias. Good Luck and do keep in touch if you need a sympathetic ear.
