Hey Friends,
Just moved to Dubai and signed a tenancy contract with agent saying that we need to pay the property agent sum of AED 2000 every year as renewal charges. We have shifted to JLT. This is very new to me and i am confused that why should we pay to agent so much amount for doing nothing except getting tenancy contract done every year.

Is it compulsory to pay agent every year and are you paying them.

We renewed in April .... didn’t have to pay the agent, just agreed the new tenancy direct with the landlord. Unless you sign something to say you have to pay each year or you engage the agent to renew for you then you shouldn’t need to pay.

It's not unheard of - if my memory serves me right, we paid a fee to our estate agent to help facilitate the renewal of our contract... It might sound like you're paying for nothing, but i'm sure your agent is your point of contact should anything go wrong with your landlord or property throughout the year still? If so, it's worth that extra support. Plus, these guys have got to support themselves and if you stay for 3 years in a rented space but only pay all fees at the beginning of the first year, what are they getting for the remaining 2 years?
