THE UAE has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world, with 13 per cent diagnosis rates, according to a recent medical research. Despite this high statistic in the number of asthmatic patients, effective diagnosis, care and management of the disease remain insufficient in the country. The research has revealed that about 58 per cent of the asthmatics in the UAE suffer daytime symptoms, an unnecessary compromise on life that can be prevented by following an asthma management plan that achieves control. Im 100 times worse over here.

Definitely depends on your trigger. For me it's organic dust so I am far better over here. No heavy, ancient carpets, curtains or plants.

Thanks. Lb. I would need to buy them over the counter. I am here for some time on vacation and just wanted to know if I needed an emergency supply I could get them in the pharmacy. That puts my mind at ease, as I am one of those people that has an inhaler in every purse, bag and car. Thanks again FB

All over the counter. I have managed to get them on my health insurance (the few times I have needed them) had to go to the Dr first to get them paid for.

I think it depends what your triggers are. My asthma has never been better, have to take so little medication and I'm never wheezy. It's a massive reason for me to stay, and no hayfever either!

not at all, in my case. my asthma is worsened by cold and dry weather, mainly when i am in europe Me too. The cold and all the pollen at home is the killer. I'm great here. Me three... it's unbearable when I go back home, humidity is a big trigger for me. I have come back from trips with a full chest and barely able to breathe and 5 minutes after I step outside the terminal, I feel so much better.

The UAE is one of the worst cities in the world for people with asthma, influenced by the enviromental factors dust, traffic, lack of trees greenary, mould and fungal spores from central AC,rapid industrialisation!! My sons asthma is not good here he has alot of allergies and now on a steriods inhaler at the age of 7,i am going back to Scotland in easter to look at schools and hopefully move back home in the summer as he is so much better back there!!

I'm not a fully-fledged asthmatic, but my symptoms - wheeziness etc - were certainly worse in Dubai. I wasn't sure whether it was the pollution or the amount of sand in the air, or possibly also related to air-con indoors.

Short Answer: yes, i am worse of here - my asthma is triggered by dust - all the fine construction dust and sand in the air and dry air indoors does not help either., but I am on medication and my attacks are controlled and rare..

Anyone with asthma - how does the weather here affect you? Does the dust in the air make your asthma worse? I have friend thinking of coming here but had bad attack in Marrakesh, Morocco, because of sand in air and polution - so she is wondering about Dubai. Thanks
